From Grief to Grace: A Story of New Life in the Philippines

While visiting homes in Ozamiz City in the Philippines, the team met a woman (wearing the black shirt). As she and her family sat together, they listened intently as the team shared the Gospel. That day, she and three others prayed to receive Jesus.

Afterward, the team began going through the first two parts of our New Believers’ discipleship lesson, focusing on John 3:16–17 and 2 Corinthians 5:17, key passages that help new believers understand God’s love and the new life found in Christ.

As part of the lesson, the team encouraged her to pause and listen for what God wanted to speak to her personally through 2 Corinthians 5:17. When asked what she felt the Lord was saying, tears began to fill her eyes.

She opened up and shared her story and how she had once walked closely with Jesus but had turned away after deep personal loss. She had lost her first husband, then remarried—only for her second husband to pass away as well. The weight of grief and heartbreak had left her angry, wounded, and blaming God.

But in that moment, as the presence of God filled the room, she felt Him calling her back to Himself.

The team then turned to John 10:10, explaining that it’s the thief (the devil) who comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but that Jesus came to give life and life to the fullest. As she listened, you could see something shift inside her. The heaviness lifted. Her countenance changed.

She realized that although she had walked away, God had never left her.

It was a deeply moving moment – not just for her, but for everyone in that room. The atmosphere was filled with peace and joy as the team witnessed her reconnect with her Savior.
